Letter from Nurse Julie
Dear Parents,

This letter is to inform you that there are students in your child’s school who have severe peanut/nut allergies. Strict avoidance of peanut/nut products is the only way to prevent a life threatening allergic reaction. We are asking your assistance in providing the students with a safe learning environment. If exposed to peanuts/nuts the students may develop a life-threatening allergic reaction that requires emergency medical treatment. The greatest potential for exposure at school is to peanut products and nut products. To reduce the risk of exposure, the classrooms will be peanut/nut free. Please, do not send any peanut or tree nut containing products for your child to eat during snack in the classrooms or on the bus. Any exposure to peanuts or nuts through contact or ingestion can cause a severe reaction. If your child has eaten peanuts, peanut butter, or nuts prior to coming to school, please be sure your child’s hands have been thoroughly washed prior to entering the school.
Since lunch is eaten in the cafeteria, your child may bring peanut butter, peanut, or nut products for lunch. Children who bring nut products will not sit together with a child who has a nut allergy. This plan will help to maintain safety in the classroom while allowing non-allergic classmates to enjoy peanut/nut products in a controlled environment. Following lunch, the children will wash their hands prior to going to recess (or returning to the class.) The tables will be cleaned with soap, water and paper towels after each lunch.
We appreciate your support of these procedures. Information regarding samples of safe snacks/treats are included.

Sincerely,

Julie Anderson, LPN

Drills
March 15, 2015
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This note is to let you know that we will practice our Internal Lockdown (Safe Place) Drill and our External Evacuation Drill this week.  Chief of Police Jim Huff will be assisting us with these drills.  We will also be practicing a tornado drill.
We are doing our best to ensure that safety measures are practiced in the school building and on the playground.  You can help your child develop effective safety habits by providing safety instructions at home. The teachers have been practicing with your child here at school.  It is vital that your child listens and follows instructions the first time in any safety situation.
We appreciate your support in working together to establish and maintain the safest school possible.

                                                               Sincerely,
                                                               Sandy Pohl
                                                               East Elementary Principal
